The Making Of: Dusk

A closer look at the story behind each blend from our new collection: The Art of Scent.

The story:

Much like our SLEEP Mist and Roll-On, we wanted a diffuser blend for the evening that wasn’t obvious—something that wasn’t the essential oils your grandmother would use (although we’re sure she’s lovely!). This aroma was inspired by an evening hike Sara took in Joshua Tree National Park, where she found herself walking on dry dirt and sand under a purple sunset surrounded by warm boulders. Dusk is a nod to evenings in the desert and took over 15 iterations to create the perfect dry, yet comforting feeling of the desert air. We hope Dusk helps you create an oasis in your space.

The art:

You can read more about why we named this collection The Art of Scent here.

For each blend, we partnered with illustrator Mary Clare Wilkie to design a watercolour pattern. Just like we captured the essence of a place or mood through scent, Mary Clare captured the essence of our blends through watercolour. The Dusk print was inspired by desert sunsets and giant boulders. Not only are the illustrations a welcome surprise when you open our new blends boxes, they also make for a great phone wallpaper.

Just hold down the image if you’re on your phone to save it. Easy peasy.

The visuals:

All of the images and videos for each blend were shot by Taylor McKay, who managed to capture the feeling of each scent through dreamy, surreal film. Watch the video for Dusk here.

*Dusk will be available to shop on Nov. 7 at 10 AM PST.
