Spring Sneaks (And How to Clean Them)

There are a few things vitruvi HQ loves: jeans, minimalist jewelry and of course, shoes. Whether you’re a shoe dog, a sneakerhead or just love a fresh pair of kicks, we’ve broken down the most talked-about sneakers you need to complete your spring wardrobe. This post is also a 2 for 1—a sneaker roundup and a DIY cleaner to help keep them looking fresh. Boom.

Vans Old School Lite
These Vans are a personal favourite at vitruvi HQ, with their suede exterior and off-white colour, they carry the classic style while channelling a vintage vibe. We think they’re perfect for anyone who wants something that isn’t in-your-face bold—it’s a more subtle, spring-appropriate sneak.

Nike Air Max 97
One of the best parts of the Air Max 97’s is that they come in virtually every colour. For people like myself, whose wardrobe consists strictly of black and white, it’s the perfect way to incorporate a little bit of colour into your day-to-day outfits. This modern take on the Nike classic is a great shoe if you’re looking to make a big shoe statement.

Allbirds Runners
Although deceiving, these runners are tough against stains, dirt and Vancouver’s very best: rain. These Allbirds are made with a water resistant texture, making them our new favourite springtime sneaker. Not to mention they’re ethically made with 100% recycled laces and a low carbon footprint. Win. We love to pair these with our favourite Mom jeans and a white tee on days when we just can’t.

Who would we be if we didn’t pay tribute to one of the fastest growing shoes of all time? The YEEZY 500’s are always a classic choice if you’re looking to turn a few heads. If you’re a sneakerhead, these shoes are definitely a must for your closet (brb patiently waiting for the new colours to drop).

Reebok Club C 95
This shoe is redefining the meaning of a “dad shoe” with its heavy shape and minimal exterior. The C in the name of these Reebok’s stands for “Champion” (obviously), so take on the day and feel like a true girl boss in this pair of OG kicks.

We wouldn’t leave you hanging so, of course, we have a simple DIY shoe cleaner to keep your favourite pair looking like the first day you fell in love with them.

What you’ll need:
1 toothbrush
5 parts water
1 parts vinegar
Lemon essential oil

What to do:
1. Take 1 part vinegar to 5 parts water and add in 8 drops of lemon essential oil in a bowl
2. Take your toothbrush and dip it into your mix
3. Scrub your shoes gently with the toothbrush and let air dry

This cleaner works wonders on leather and rubber accents on shoes, making the white of your shoes brighter than when you got them. If you’re using this cleaner on a canvas, we recommend being conservative and gentle with your cleaner.
