DIY: Glow-Enhancing Face Steam

Our skin has been facing more of the elements this season with the cold, rain and snow in Canada. We didn’t quite have the budget for weekly facials, however we did come up with a pretty decadent and simple alternative that has saved our skin and kept a glow—despite the grey weather we’ve experienced.

We created this glow-enhancing face steam with specific essential oils that help tighten, tone, and increase your skin’s natural glow. Here’s our lineup and why we chose them:

  1. Sweet Orange is high in vitamin c and gives you a natural glow by increasing circulation to your skin when combined with steam.
  2. Geranium is a balancing oil and is especially beneficial if you are experiencing PMS or breakouts and changes in your skin due to hormones.
  3. Lavender is incredibly gentle and calms redness and any irritation.
  4. Tea Tree is a powerful astringent and when combined with the benefits of steam, the heat opens up the pores and the tea tree essential oil’s astringent properties are able to get deep into the pores. This helps tone the skin, clear it up, and prevent future breakouts.

Step 1: Fill a medium/large bowl with boiling water.

Step 2: Add the following essential oils to the water:

10 drops of Geranium
3 drops of Lavender
2 drops of Sweet Orange

Step 3: Sit so that you can comfortably place your face over the bowl of hot water. Drape a towel over your head to make a tent over you and the bowl of water. Steam face for 2-5 minutes.
