DIY: Complete Calm Tea

It can be one of the most frustrating things: lying in bed, your body completely exhausted, but your brain is in overdrive. Sometimes you’re replaying your days events or your schedule for the next day, and sometimes it’s nothing at all—you just have Beyonce in your head saying “Boy Bye” on repeat and you can’t make her stop.

Maybe it’s the chocolate bar you ate while binge-watching reruns of Friday Night Lights, maybe it’s the jog you took too close to bedtime, or could it have been the bright screen from your phone tricking your brain into thinking its still go time? Whatever the reason, you’re up and you wish you weren’t.

Try counting sheep and fluffing your pillow all you want, until your brain feels relaxed and free you’re not catching your beauty sleep. Being the powerhouse that you are, you need all the rest you can get in order to conquer tomorrow. Here is a great tea to start associating with settling in:

Choose herbs that have soothing effects. Stay away from green, white, oolong, or black teas before bed.

Try combining a spoonful each of chamomile and spearmint with a dash of lavender in a bowl. If you’re lucky enough to have some in the garden, go ahead and use that fresh. Otherwise you can find loose teas at a natural food store.

Fill an empty teabag or a strainer with a teaspoon of the blend. Steep in boiled water and add a dollop of organic honey before sipping slowly. Another helpful trick is to turn down the temperature in your room, mist your face and pillow with a calming scent like Vitruvi’s Sleep Mist, and you’ll find yourself drifting off.

Sweet dreams.
