Balance Muse: Fiona Morrison

For the next week we're focusing on the launch of our mists and roll-ons: a collection inspired by daily rituals. The collection consists of 5 blends: Wake, Focus, Balance, Still and Sleep. For this campaign, we spent 1 day getting a glimpse into the lives of 5 incredible, dynamic women from our community. Each woman is a muse for the blend she best represents. Here, you'll get a chance to learn more about her daily rituals.

Fiona is the founder of Wolf Circus Jewelry and her studio space was our first stop on shoot day. Wolf Circus had just recently moved offices, and the new space is beautiful—open, airy, bright and warm.  Needless to say, we were all drawn to one special corner of her space: the mini showroom, if you will. Stacked rings, delicate gold chains and pendants, and the perfect huggie earrings. By the end of the shoot, we had mentally “added to cart” a whole slew of things we’d later go home and order. The shoot itself was quite seamless—the jewelry completed every little vignette and Fiona was incredibly easy going.

We chose Fiona as the muse for our Balance blend because being an entrepreneur inevitably demands balance. After speaking with her about it, Fiona actually shared that balance is a challenge for her and that it’s something that’s she practicing in small, but significant ways. Being active and getting outdoors is one of those ways—whether it’s a simple stroll with her headphones in, or rock climbing or hiking up a mountain. One of her favourite outdoor activities is also surfing—so she really is a balance muse at heart.

We chatted with Fiona about the evolution of Wolf Circus, what balance means to her, her favourite surf spots, and how sometimes you just have to say “no” (preach).

Where does the name Wolf Circus come from?

At the time of conceiving the line I was very into wolves and how they were such strong independent animals. My parents jokingly added that if I did anything in life it would turn into a circus. The uniqueness of our brand name has been a topic of many discussions and luckily stands out.

What were the early days at Wolf Circus like? How have you grown since then?

Wolf Circus began in 2010 while I was studying at the University of Victoria. Initially I started by slanging crystal wrapped pendants and selling them to friends on campus. Our brand has definitely gone through some significant changes as we have stepped away from our crystal inspired beginnings to a more modern collection.

What does “balance” mean to you?

When I found out Vitruvi had selected me to represent the scent balance I found it ironic as those who know me best know that I have a difficult time balancing my life. It’s definitely been a challenge to make time for myself while simultaneously growing a business, but I have recently discovered that making time to physically rest and do absolutely nothing on the weekends is equally important as seeking next best adventure.

To be truthful balance for me is flying into the office after a 6 am workout class, knowing there are a million things on my to-do list with undetermined completion dates, yet still somehow finding the time to explore my other passions. No matter which city I’m in or how busy I am, I try and take 30 minutes to myself each day—sometimes it can be as long as a hike or as short as going for a stroll with my headphones in.

Gold or silver?

Mixed! Currently I’m really into gold on my ears and neck with a gold and silver mix stacked all over my fingers.

Who are some of your female role models?

Emily Weiss, Sophia Amoruso and Ty Haney.

What’s the most rewarding part of starting your own business?

Getting to see it really take off, being able to build a community and having (almost) all your dreams come true!

One of the reasons we felt you embody balance is that you’re also a surfer! How often do you go and where are your favourite spots?

El Salvador and Sombrio on Vancouver Island <3

How do you take time for yourself?

Hiking, surfing, rock climbing, solo walks to get coffee and sometimes just saying no to things everyone may expect you to do.
